Late winter and early spring are often considered the best time to travel in the Whitsundays because of the comfortable warm weather, excellent sailing conditions, and "shoulder season" prices. Because the Whitsundays have a tropical climate, the weather is warm year-round. Summer brings higher heat and humidity, and winter brings cooler temperatures and less rain. December, January, and February

Summer in the Whitsundays is the busiest time to travel because of holidays and school breaks. It's important to book tours and accommodations well in advance during summer!

As for the weather, summer brings long, sunny days with hot temperatures and decent humidity. This is technically part of the wet season, so there may be some rain and storms but you may still encounter plenty of sunshine as well. And if it does rain, there are still lots of fun things to do in Airlie Beach. Rainclouds can make for some epic sunsets as well!

However, popular holiday times such as Easter, Anzac Day, and Mother's Day can bring some crowds as well so make sure you plan ahead.

Whale season is certainly a drawcard for many travellers who want to have a first-hand encounter with whales, and the Whitsundays are a Whale Heritage Site! Popular events like Hamilton Race Week and Airlie Beach Race Week also take place in Winter due to the clear sailing conditions.

Crowds start to ramp up in late November as the holiday season approaches, but spring is a fabulous time to visit the Whitsundays.
