Scuba Diving in the Whitsundays
For those fortunate enough to be embarking on an overnight sailing trip in the Whitsundays, there is also the opportunity of a lifetime to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
Notorious for its friendly green sea turtles, flashing fusiliers, enormous mauri wrass and colourful fringing reefs, the Whitsundays and the outer Great Barrier Reef offer a number of amazing snorkel and dive locations.
Catering for both introductory and certified divers, the Whitsundays is the ultimate place to experience you first scuba dive or a number of deeper dives for the more-seasoned scuba-enthusiasts.
Most overnight boats are able to offer a rendezvous dive, meaning the vessel will ‘rendezvous’ or meet up with another vessel which has an onboard instructor and carries the necessary scuba equipment to conducts dives. This option is open for both introductory and certified (you must be your card) and is subject to age, conditions and medical questionnaire.
A dive costs $65AUD, including all gear and instructor and must be booked in advance with your boat trip.
If you are a keen diver and are wanting to participate in a number of dives, onboard diving boats would be the best option. Onboard diving means the boat is fully equipped with all necessary gear and therefore can conduct dives.
Boats which offer onboard diving:
- Anaconda 3 (offers outer reef diving)
- New Horizon
- Atlantic Clipper
- Kiana (offers outer reef diving)
- Samurai (offers 1 free dive)
Please note: all boats have a minimum age for scuba diving, please enquire with your travel agent.
