About The New Airlie Beach Foreshore Ferris Wheel

The Airlie Beach Foreshore Ferris Wheel is designed to bring an additional land-based attraction to the Whitsundays. While water-based activities like the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday Islands draw in the majority of visitors to Airlie Beach, the Ferris Wheel will hopefully add another layer of excitement to the mainland.

During free time between boat tours, visitors will have another fun thing to do that is easily accessible, affordable, and not time-consuming. It will also provide incredible panoramic views of the Airlie Beach coastline!

But the Airlie Beach Ferris Wheel isn't just for tourists! The Whitsunday Regional Council hopes that the affordably-priced tickets and the beautiful views will attract locals as well. After the five-month trial period, the council will review feedback from the community to decide whether the attraction is a success or not.

Airlie Beach Foreshore Ferris Wheel 2025 Timeline

June 2025

Installation of the Airlie Beach Foreshore Ferris Wheel takes place between the 1st and 5th of June. Nearby car parks and footpaths may have restricted access during these days, as there will be heavy machinery operating to install the Ferris Wheel. On-site spotters and traffic controllers will be on the scene to ensure a smooth process.

June - October 2025

The exact opening date of the Ferris Wheel is not set, but it will be open in early June! Once the Ferris Wheel is open, locals and tourists alike will be able to enjoy the brand-new outdoor attraction.

The location of the Ferris Wheel is Fairy Tree Park next to Airlie Creek. This spot is right on the Foreshore and offers lovely views of Airlie Beach and the Coral Sea, but it is also conveniently out of the way from daily traffic in town. The site was carefully selected to minimise the impact of the Ferris Wheel on the day-to-day happenings of Airlie Beach.

September - October 2025

After a few months of Ferris Wheel operations in Airlie Beach, public consultations will take place in September and October. The Whitsunday Regional Council is dedicated to serving the citizens of Airlie Beach, so the opinions of the community are highly valued. People can submit their feedback about the Ferris Wheel online

November - December 2025

At the end of this year, the council will review the community feedback and assess the performance of the Airlie Beach Ferris Wheel. A decision will be made regarding the future of the Ferris Wheel. If it is a success, chances are you may see it again in the near future!
