The Whitsundays are a group of 74 islands that can be found off the eastern coast of Australia and are one of the top tourist destinations in the country. The main access point to the Whitsunday Islands is Airlie Beach, a small coastal town found in Queensland that is a popular holiday destination for international travellers and Australians alike. But what makes them so special and why do people keep coming back?
They are a boater's paradise

There is great snorkelling
The Whitsundays are part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, which means they are part of the world's largest living ecosystem. The islands have what are called 'fringing reefs' that circle around the islands and provide amazing snorkelling locations, as well as ideal habitats for the many fish that live here! The secluded bays and coves are often calm and are great for snorkelling and exploring, where you can see thousands of species of fish, coral and other marine animals.

The famous Whitehaven Beach is located in the Whitsundays! It is found on Whitsunday Island, the biggest of the 74 islands, and is easily accessible by boat from the mainland. Most day trips and overnight trips will go to the beach, often stopping at the equally famous Hill Inlet Lookout.
You can fly to the Heart Reef
Heart Reef is one of the most iconic destinations that can be found in Australia. The naturally formed heart-shaped reef has long been considered one of the most romantic places in the country, if not the world, and can easily be viewed from here in the Whitsundays! Aerial tours depart daily that fly over the reef giving you the perfect bird's-eye view!
