Hamilton Island bounces back after Cyclone Debbie

Updated Thu 14 Mar 2024

Hamilton Island is happy to announce its re-opening following the wrath of Cyclone Debbie that hit the Whitsunday Islands on March 28th 2017. The island itself saw wind gusts reading up to 275 km/h as well as rain and strong ocean waves, but is now open and ready for guests to come explore the stunning Whitsunday Islands.

While the island saw some damage to the vegetation and trees around the island, overall, Hamilton Island bravely maintained its tropical beauty and remains a beautiful escape in the Whitsundays. Several buildings also needed repairs, but Hamilton Island has since have opened up all restaurants and retails stores and are ready for business. Life on the island is getting back to normal, with a range of activities still available to guests visiting this tropical paradise.
