Solway Lass Whitsundays Sailing

Are you thinking of taking a sailing journey through the Whitsunday Islands? There is an abundance of trips available from day tours to 2day/2night or 3day/3night adventures. While many boats cater for the younger market, a sail on Solway Lass is a relaxing journey suited for everyone from solo travellers, to couples or even families.

Solway Lass is one of the oldest and most iconic tall ships cruising the Whitsundays. Constructed in Holland in 1902, Solway Lass has a long, rich history and is full of old-world charm. This vessel has travelled the world surviving two World Wars, two trips to Davey Jones’ Locker and numerous name changes. After being a supply vessel, war decoy, icebreaker and coastal trader, she has now been refurbished to suit the overnight cruise market and even features air conditioning over a century on from her first journey!

Solway motors the turquoise waters of the Whitsundays at a leisurely pace allowing you plenty of time to take in your surroundings and appreciate the natural beauty of the area. When the wind is right, she is a magnificent sight to see under full sail and the crew are more than happy to show you the ropes and let you hoist a sail or two. There is nothing quite like relaxing on the deck or in the bow nets with your feet over the water in total peace and quiet with the wind in your hair.

While the vessel’s itinerary varies trip to trip depending on the weather, tides and the Captain’s choice on the day, a trip on Solway Lass usually includes stops at some spectacular snorkelling spots with abundant marine life and plenty of time to explore the world-famous Whitehaven Beach. Snorkels, stinger suits and stand up paddleboards are provided for use free of charge and the rope swing on the bow of the ship is well worth a try.

Back on board, all meals are fully catered and served on deck. Tasty options for breakfast, lunch and dinner plus morning and afternoon tea are provided by the on-board chef and all dietary restrictions are taken into account. There is also complimentary chilled water, tea and coffee and a small bar where you can purchase alcohol or soft drinks. One thing is for sure, you will never go hungry (or thirsty) on Solway Las!

Accommodation on Solway Lass is comfortable and consists of shared or private double or twin cabins, some with ensuite, for up to 35 people - you will be surprised how much room there is below deck. Airconditioning after a busy day of swimming and exploring almost guarantee a good nights sleep and dreams of the Whitsunday paradise will stay with you for weeks to come.
