Schoolies, one of the biggest weeks in the social calendar of most Aussie teens, is a summer blowout of mammoth proportions. Each year, thousands of North Queensland school leavers descend on Airlie Beach to let their hair down after weeks of gruelling exams, as a ritualistic rite of passage before transitioning into the adult world.

When is Schoolies 2023? 

Schoolies 2023 is spread over 3 weeks, and which week it takes place in depends on which state you’re in. In Queensland, Schoolies takes place from the 18th November until 24th November. For people in NSW and Victoria, Schoolies takes place over 2 weeks from 24th November until 2nd December!

What To Do In The Evenings During Schoolies 2023?

If you were thinking that there’s heaps to do at night during Schoolies Airlie Beach 2023, then you’d be right! 

Whenever people think of Schoolies, the main focus is on the night time events that take place. At Schoolies Airlie Beach 2023, there’s a festival stage set up on the foreshore where each night from 8pm until midnight, they put on huge themed parties with live DJs at the Airlie Beach Schoolies Festival!

But how about after midnight? The night is still young and Airlie Beach is still booming well into the early hours of the morning! For its size, Airlie Beach has a staggering amount of nightlife options that are perfect venues to continue your night. 

Mama Africa nightclub towards the top end of the main street is the cream of the crop of these, and has Schoolies nights on every night until 3am for the entire week! An Airlie institution, this neon jungle of a nightclub has been an iconic part of Airlie Beach nightlife for years and knows how to throw a party! Expect a Toga Party on Tuesday night and a Traffic Light Party on Thursday, both of which guarantee to get as wild as the venue itself!

What To Do During The Days During Schoolies 2023?

What makes Airlie Beach the ideal location to come for Schoolies isn’t just the incredible nightlife, but the sheer volume of amazing things to experience during the day! A playground for explorers and adrenaline junkies alike, this beautiful little tourist town has it all!

If you’re wanting to dust off that hangover in spectacular fashion, there’s nothing that quite compares to a skydive. With two operators based out of Airlie (Skydive Australia and Airlie Beach Skydivers), you’ll be in the safest of hands as you get chucked out of a plane at 15,000ft. With just under a minute of freefall at speeds of about 200km/h, you can safely leave the Berocca at home as this will invigorate even the sorest of heads, and provide you with an experience you’ll never forget!

And what would a trip to Airlie Beach be without a trip to Whitehaven Beach?! With a plethora of different options to choose from, there really is a trip for everyone. Whitsunday Bullet is an absolute must-do while here, as you get to visit BOTH ends of Whitehaven Beach!

Gaze over the white silica swirls and turquoise waters of one of the most beautiful beaches in the world from one of the most iconic lookouts in Australia, before heading down to the beach and swimming in the shallows amongst stingrays, juvenile sharks and turtles! Whitsunday Bullet will then take you to the South End of Whitehaven where you can use SUPs and spend ample time on this 7km stretch of heaven, before heading off to one of the many world-class snorkeling spots in the Whitsunday Islands.

If snorkeling is something you’re crazy about, then a trip to the Great Barrier Reef should be at the top of your list of things to do! There are a few options offering trips out there, all offering something slightly different. Head out to Reefworld, the Cruise Whitsundays pontoon situated at Hardy Reef where you can spend the entire day snorkeling on one of the 7 natural wonders of the word from above. Redcats Outer Great Barrier Reef Snorkel Adventure will take you out there in comfort and style, where you’ll visit a couple of different reefs throughout the day, or alternatively an exhilarating day out on Viper will take you to the outer reef in tremendous speed as well as visiting both ends of Whitehaven Beach!

And if, after all of this excitement, you’re after a nice tranquil place to chill out, Airlie Beach Lagoon in the centre of town is the perfect place to soak up that summer sun and take a dip to refresh!
