7 Reasons you should visit the Whitsundays this Autumn

Updated Mon 06 Jun 2022

Autumn is the beginning of the slow season in the Whitsundays, where crowds begin to thin out and spaces start opening up on boats and in hotels. It's a well-kept secret that while it may be a slow time of year, but it is still one of the best. Not only is the weather great in autumn, but guests can also look forward to far fewer people and less crowds as school holidays are over. We've listed some of the top reasons you should visit the Whitsundays in autumn to help you feel inspired during your holiday planning!

The Whitsundays

1. The weather is amazing
As the weather gets colder elsewhere in Australia, the Whitsundays and Airlie Beach remain at an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. This means you can escape the hustle and bustle of colder cities in the south, and enjoy a warm tropical vacation in the Whitsundays. The sea is still quite warm, which makes for enjoyable snorkelling and swimming, and there is plenty of sun to help keep your beautiful tan!

2. Deals, deals, deals
Since autumn is the slow season, many boats offer us deals to pass onto you! This means you can afford a longer or more luxurious trip in the Whitsundays during autumn, that you might not normally be able to afford. 3. Less crowds
After April, school holidays are over so there are far fewer families bringing their school-aged children to the Whitsundays. This means your trip to the Whitsundays will be less crowded and more secluded. With fewer people around, snorkelling the reef and your time spent at Whitehaven Beach or Hill Inlet Lookout become so much more magical as the feeling of being on an isolated and untouched island feeds into every aspect of your vacation.

4. The end of stinger season
Stinger season is at its peak from October through May. This means many of the boats require visitors to wear a stinger suit during this period to avoid being stung by potentially fatal jellyfish. Autumn starts at the end of peak season meaning visitors are far less likely to encounter jellyfish in the water during this time of year.
