Sailing the Whitsundays and Covid Safety

Updated Tue 26 Sep 2023

The Whitsundays are now open again for business and boat operators are welcoming guests back with open arms. Post-COVID 19 lockdown, boat tours in the Whitsundays may operate a little differently, with many policies and procedures implemented to keep you safe, but they still provide the same world-class experiences and action-packed itineraries with your comfort, safety and enjoyment as their top priority.

Visitors to the Whitsundays can be assured that local boat operators are adhering to the recommended social distancing and hygiene practices for all aspects of their tours from check-in to drop-off.

Airlie Beach avoid the crowds

COVID Safe procedures that have been implemented throughout the Whitsundays adhere to Government Health and Safety Recommendations and may include any or all of the following and vary from business to business:

  • Maintaining physical/social distancing of 1.5m

  • Seating fewer people in tour transport buses

  • Reducing the number of guests on each tour

  • Ensuring hand sanitizer is available in public spaces, including on all boats

  • Training staff members to regularly clean and sanitise all areas with an emphasis on hard surfaces and high-touch points

  • Reformatting dining options (where offered) from buffets and shared platters to individually pre-packed meals or snack packs

To keep us all safe, guests with any symptoms of illness or who are feeling generally unwell are respectfully requested not to travel at this time. Remember, we are all in this together and we need your help to stop the virus spread. While travelling in the Whitsundays, please use hand sanitiser regularly, adhere to social distancing rules and use the recommended hygiene practices if you need to cough or sneeze.

While we all find ourselves in continually changing circumstances during this difficult time, many boat operators understand that their guests’ needs may change at short notice and are offering more flexibility with their booking rescheduling and cancellation options than ever before.

With such comprehensive hygiene protocols and management plans in place, Whitsunday guests can now travel again with confidence. So, if a Whitsunday adventure has forever been on your bucket list, now is the ideal time to explore your own backyard.
