Airlie Beach Boardwalk Reopens
After 13 weeks of redevelopment, the second stage of the upgrades to the Airlie Beach Boardwalk have been completed!
Following on from the well-received upgrades to the section between Coral Sea Marina Resort to the North End of Coral Sea Marina, it was time for the next section from Shingley Beach to VMR to follow suit; and as of December 6th, is now back open to the public and looking better than ever!
What Is The Airlie Beach Boardwalk?
The Airlie Beach Boardwalk, part of the even longer and incredibly popular Bicentennial Walk, is a much loved pedestrianised artery into the town from neighbouring Cannonvale.
Hugging tightly to the stunning coastline the entire way, the Airlie Beach Boardwalk is about 4km long and passes by multiple iconic locations such as Coral Sea Marina Resort, Sorrentos, Shingley Beach and Mirage Whitsundays, before ending at Cannonvale Beach.
What Upgrades Have Been Made?
The section just upgraded, commonly know as the Turtle Boardwalk, has had the width expanded by about 1m the entire way along, ensuring that it's more accessible and less congested for the many walkers, segway-ers and cyclists who use it daily!
The entire section has been raised, with composite fibre materials that have 100-year design life, ensuring less need for regular requirements for costly and inconvenient maintenance. In addition to this, solar-panelled lights have been installed on each of the posts making the walkway suitable for traversing comfortably even once the sun goes down!
