When is Daydream Island reopening?
Updated 05/03/19
Daydream Island is reopening in April 2019. The island has been undergoing renovations since March 2017 when it was damaged by Cyclone Debbie - the worst cyclone in recent memory to hit the Whitsundays. At the time of the cyclone, Daydream Island's management was planning a major renovation to take place in the future but brought those renovations forward in light of the cyclone damages. Since then, they have been revamping and redoing the majority of the island's infrastructure.
The 'new' Daydream Island will be launching signature restaurants, bars and waterfront suites. New restaurants include Graze Interactive Dining - a charming restaurant that overlooks the living reef; Infinity - an Asian fusion restaurant; and Inkstone Kitchen and Bar - a modern restaurant with Australian cuisine made with local produce and native flavours. The new bars include Tonic and Silica, as well as Barefoot Bar, a swim-up bar that serves burgers, wings and other tasty food in addition to cocktails, beer, wine and smoothies.
The revitalised pool area, including the new bar, will wind in and around the tropical surroundings with views of the Great Barrier Reef and surrounding Whitsunday Islands, ensuring Daydream Island still is a relaxing aquatic oasis as it always has been.
The famous living reef, a staple to Daydream Island, will be bigger and better than ever, having undergone extensive renovations that will house an array of marine life from the Whitsundays. Not only will this feature still offers all the island's classic perks such as the kid's club and animal feeding, but it also has new appeal such as an underwater observatory for guests to enjoy.
Daydream Island will be coming back better than ever. It will still maintain the classic feel of the resort island while looking forward to the future. It is said the new identity of the island will be a reflection of the island's history, its culture and community and was formed with the help of locals and those invested in the well-being of the island.
Daydream Island has long been a sought after destination in the Whitsundays. It is located close to Airlie Beach on the mainland and has a short transit time by ferry. The island is only accessible by a ferry that departs from Port of Airlie, departing several times daily. It is family-friendly and also has an adults-only area so those seeking sanctuary or peace and quiet.
There will be 277 contemporary suites on the island that will have resort, ocean or garden views. They are taking bookings from April 10 2019 onwards.
