They are those bright, amazingly coloured blue and yellow fish which you see so often around the Whitsunday islands.

Fusiliers are a thriving coral reef fish species in the Whitsundays which swim in large schools as you snorkel at some of the top snorkel sites around the islands, particularly Blue Pearl Bay and Manta Ray Bay.

Easy to identify, yellowtail fusiliers are a smaller species of fish which are blue in colour along the body with a yellow fin and tail with a feature black spot on their back pectoral fin.

The fusilier is completely harmless and a rather friendly fish for snorkelers, divers and swimmers around them, and an eater of plankton.
