The Travel Shop is an Australian travel company operating leading tours and experiences across Cairns, the Whitsundays, K’gari, the Outback, and the East Coast. The Travel Shop is entering a new phase, focused on structure, accountability and scalable growth.
We are seeking an experienced Department Manager to lead our Cairns operation, overseeing both in-store and online sales performance, supplier relationships and team development.
This role is suited to someone who is based in Cairns, can operate independently, drive results, and bring structure to a busy sales environment.
The Position
A Full-Time Department Manager, based in Cairns.
Your Responsibilities
• Manage day-to-day performance of the Cairns Department
• Lead and support retail and online sales staff
• Monitor conversion, revenue and enquiry handling standards
• Manage rostering, coverage and productivity
• Work closely with head office on pricing, promotions and campaigns
• Maintain and strengthen supplier relationships in Cairns
• Identify underperforming areas and implement improvements
• Ensure booking accuracy, compliance and customer service standards
• Contribute to sales strategy and growth planning

• Sales revenue and conversion rates
• Enquiry response quality and speed
• Staff performance, training and accountability
• Supplier engagement and local partnerships
• Operational consistency with company systems
Skills and Experience
• Previous experience managing a sales or travel department
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Ability to manage both people and performance metrics
• Confident decision-maker who does not require close supervision
• Strong organisational and problem-solving ability
• Travel or tourism experience strongly preferred
• Comfortable working with CRMs, booking systems and KPIs
