Changes to 457 Visa in Australia
The 457 visa will be scrapped in Australia. On 18 April 2017 the Prime Minister of Australia announced that the 457 visa be no longer and will instead be replaced by the TSS visa, or Temporary Skill Shortage Visa, which will address genuine skill shortages.
What does this mean for tourists? Next to nothing. If you’re coming to Australia to travel, there are many other visas suitable for you, including subclass 600, 462, 417 and more. The 457 visa is only applicable for those who are relocating to Australia for work-based reasons. It allowed workers to come to Australia and work for an approved business for up to four years if the occupation was listed on the MLTSSL (Medium and Long term Strategic Skilled List) and two years if it was not.
If you’re coming to see this beautiful country, travel and tour around, or even if you’re coming here to work and travel, the 457 isn’t applicable to you. If you hope to supplement your travels by working, you can apply for a working holiday visa, which is ideal for those aged 18 - 30.
