What an incredible year for the Airlie Beach Race Week 2021!
The final day of the Whitsunday's Sailing Club's colourful event saw fine conditions of 10 - 17 knot winds, as competitors sailed a triangular course out at Pioneer Bay.
A vibrant variety of sleek, speedy vessels hit the water on the final day of the week-long competition, and punters headed out to watch the action. While a few competitors were stuck in NSW due to COVID-19 restrictions, the turnout over the festival was still an fantastic sight to see. The Whitsunday Sailing Club welcomed participants old and new, and spirits were high as sailors set out for a day of Whitsunday sailing!
The day followed with close competition, skilful sailing and some incredible Humpback sightings as sailors from around the country glided through the water at unbelievable speeds. With seconds between winners, this final race really provided the nail-biting action!
The winners of multihull division 1 at the Airlie Beach Race Week are as follows.
In first place, was local-sailor Paul Mitchell, skippering Extreme 40 multihull 'Angus', who won eight out of ten races over the week.
In second place, was Jamie Jochheim, skippering 'Back in Black'.
In third place, was Joel Berg, skippering 'Parabellum'.
