From the world’s largest mango along the Bruce Highway, the saltwater crocodile territory of Proserpine, and Bowen’s Summergarden Theatre, there are boats worth of local yarns and Whitsunday personalities that are ready to drive you around Airlie Beach, Bowen, Collinsville and Proserpine!

Tourism Whitsundays in partnership with Storytowns has launched four new self-driving podcast tours, that showcase the diverse and colourful history of the Whitsundays towns and local community members.

Podcast specialists, Storytowns, have engaged with local communities to strategically design audio podcasts that will encourage travellers to explore the full extent of the Whitsunday’s destinations, from the laid-back coastal hubs of Airlie Beach and Bowen to the eclectic rural towns of Proserpine and Collinsville.

Using the art of storytelling and geo-located technology, the ‘Discover the Whitsundays’ tour is now available for free listening via the Storytowns app. Simply visit the app store, search for ‘Storytowns’, download, and get listening whilst you drive through the Whitsundays region.

It’s time to forget your Google search and kick back as you explore the Whitsundays region on a self-driven podcast tour. The perfect way to fill your Whitsundays itinerary!

Tourism Whitsunday Chief Executive Officer, Rick Hamilton, believes the interactive podcast episodes will increase visitation, dispersal, expenditure, and the length of stay as holidaymakers explore the Whitsundays.

“The new podcasts are a great way to preserve and uncover our region in a new, interesting and personal way. It’s exciting to include locals, getting them to share their stories and sense of pride for the Whitsunday region,” Mr Hamilton said.

Bowen Tourism and Business Chair, Jenn Honnery said “It will be fantastic to see travellers have the opportunity to learn about the tales that make each of the towns in The Whitsundays unique and why it’s worth staying a little longer to visit them all”.

From rich farmland areas to jewel-coloured coves the ‘Discover the Whitsundays’ self-driving podcast tour is ready to welcome you to the region like a true local. Make sure to download the Storytowns app to bring your North Queensland road trip to life!
