Huge news for the Whitsundays tourism and business sectors has been announced, with Australia’s newest low-cost airline, Bonza Airlines, set to introduce three new routes from regional hotspots to the Whitsunday Coast Airport.

New flights from the Whitsunday Coast Airport to the Sunshine Coast, Newcastle, and Toowoomba will drastically improve connectivity to the Whitsunday region, one of Australia’s most popular domestic tourism destinations.

Regional routes to the Sunshine Coast, Newcastle, and Toowoomba, offered at low prices, will ensure that holidaymakers don’t have to spend additional dollars travelling to and from the capital cities.

The successful Whitsunday Coast Airport already offers popular routes to the major cities of Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns, and Rockhampton.

Set to commence flights by mid-2022*, Mayor of the Whitsunday Regional Council Andrew Willcox, stated yesterday that it was a Bonza day for the Whitsundays, as a new market for the region will open.

“The best kicker of all… Bonza is a budget airline committed to opening up routes to regional Australia,” Mr Willcox said in a statement.

“That adds up to cheaper airfares… more bums on seats and extra bodies in beds to boost our region’s economy”.

The Chief Operating Officer of Aviation and Tourism, Craig Turner, has stated that Bonza’s three new routes to regional Australian hotspots will increase the number of arrivals to the Whitsundays region immensely.

“Pre-covid our expectations around arrivals was 500 000 passengers per annum, now with the new flights and demand we’re seeing, we’re now forecasting around the vicinity of 750 000 passengers per annum,” Mr Turner said in a statement.

Bonza’s bright purple aircraft are set to commence flight from the Whitsunday Coast Airport to the Sunshine Coast Airport three times a week, to the Newcastle Airport twice a week, and to the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport twice a week from mid-2022, provided regulatory approval is granted.

Bonza Airlines tickets are set to go on sale within the next two months.
