Anzac Day 2018 Whitsundays
Anzac Day is a special and commemorative day for all of Australia and New Zealand. It is a day of reflection and respect for those who have served and continue to serve our country, with ceremonies taking place throughout the day. It is a time of national identity where all of Australia comes together for a single purpose.
Anzac stands for stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps is a day of respect for both entities. April 25 of each year marks the anniversary of the first major action of Australia and New Zealand during the First World War when they landed on the Gallipoli peninsula, where we take the opportunity to respect those who have defended our country and died in war or operational efforts.
Commemorative services are held at different locations across the country at dawn, which was the time of the original landing at Gallipoli. Later in the day, former servicemen and servicewomen attend marches throughout the streets of their town or city, allowing all to come and show their respects.
The Whitsundays' Dawn Service will take place at 5:30am on April 25 2018 at the Cannonvale Cenotaph, Coral Esplanade in Cannonvale, where all are welcome to attend.
The Main Service is at 8:30am, beginning at the Broadwater Avenue Carpark in Airlie Beach. Services commence at 9:15am.
Anzac Day is a special experience, with all spectators welcome, no matter where they are from. It is a time of community and remembrance where we can all come together to show respect for the sacrifices of those before us.
