A Bloggers Adventure on Whitsundays Adventurer
Adventurer is a beautiful little catamaran situated in Airlie Beach in the Whitsunday Islands. I was lucky enough to get out on her for a few days not long after my arrival to Airlie Beach for a 2-day and 2-night tour of the Whitsunday Islands. Suited for only 12 guests at a time, it is a personal place from which to explore the reefs and get to know a bit more about the region. My trip had a great mix of people, from couples, single travellers and those travelling in groups of three or four. There were different nationalities and ages of people, as well as an even mix of men and women. It was really the ideal group of people to travel with and Adventurer seemed to suit everyone really well. Cut out for the “flashpacker” or those who want to travel and meet people, Adventurer is a mid-range catamaran with a tour centered around discovery, fun, and adventure.
Our itinerary was action packed, revolving around snorkelling, paddleboarding, kayaking, and swimming. The boat was outfitted with two paddleboards, a glass bottom kayak, snorkel gear, fins and modern stinger suits, leaving nothing for want on board.
I’m more of a snorkelling type of gal myself, so I spent the majority of my time face-down, looking for turtles. Although I wasn’t brave enough to try paddleboarding (I have the worst balance), I did try a spin in the glass bottom kayak, which turned out to be well worth it. Light and easy to maneuver, it was a unique and great way to see the reefs. I’m a big fan of kayaking, but was reluctant to give up time in the water, but it was honestly a really great perspective to see the reef from. Ideal for those who don’t want to get wet or are weary of getting in the water, the kayak is a great solution. You may look silly hunched over looking at the space between your knees, but hey, I promise it’s worth it.
The crew was knowledgeable and helpful, keeping a close eye on everyone and making sure everyone was comfortable with what they were doing, whether it was kayaking, paddleboarding or snorkelling, which was always appreciated. They always pointed out if they saw turtles nearby coming up for air, and sent you their way to see if you could spot them yourself, which clearly, I loved!
A really unique feature that I rather enjoyed in the evenings was that Adventurer is equipped with two blue LED lights for attracting marine life to the back of the boat at night. Bringing in fish, sharks, dolphins and squid, they are the perfect nighttime show for guests. During my trip guests saw several different types of fish, as well as dolphins and squid, all coming up to the back of the boat to investigate, or for the smaller fish, to become part of the food chain.
Adventurer is great for almost any type of traveller, from solo flyers, to couples, to those travelling in groups and the crew are so great with anyone who comes on board. I recommend it if you’re looking for a smaller boat with a more intimate atmosphere, allowing for a quieter trip for you to enjoy the Whitsunday Islands.
