Here is a sample itinerary for what you can expect on your 7 day trip with Sydney Sundancer through the Whitsundays. Please note the itinerary is subject to change depending on the weather conditions on the day.
Day 1:
Make your way to the Hamilton Island Marina around midday (depending on flight or ferry arrival times) and hop aboard Sydney Sundancer, ready for a trip of a lifetime! Your friendly crew will greet you with a complimentary drink as you board and settle in. You'll depart the marina and set sail towards Cid Harbour, a gorgeous anchorage off Whitsunday Island. Option to have an afternoon stroll through the national forest before unwinding with beverages, snacks and an evening meal.
Day 2:
Enjoy your first meal of the day freshly prepared by the crew and then set sail to Langford Reef, located off Hook Island. Spend your time snorkelling and looking out for the incredible marine life. You might spot green sea turtles, giant clams, reef sharks (friendly ones, of course), eels or even manta rays as shown below! Lucky for you, you'll have a Master Reef Guide with you to guide you and provide you with plenty of information on the marine life you might see! After time in the water, opt for an island walk if you wish to do so before enjoying a delicious lunch. You'll then relocate to the second location where you'll spend the night - Stonehaven Bay off Hook Island. Catch the sunset with a cocktail, indulge in a scrumptious dinner then settle in for the night.
Day 3:
Start your day with a snorkel and work up an appetite for breakfast! Then hoist the sails and make way through the Whitsunday Passage on route to Blue Pearl Bay, off Hayman Island (one of the fanciest islands in the Whitsundays). After lunch, dive into the water for another snorkel and explore the fringing reefs where you'll be amazed by the kaleidoscope of tropical fish! Go for a ride in the glass bottom tender and check out the reef from a different perspective while listening to informative talks about what you're seeing below. If you're not exhausted yet, head for another bush walk where you can capture panoramic views of the surrounding islands before another delicious meal while watching the sun go down.
Day 4:
Off to Butterfly Bay located off Hook Island! Hop in the dinghy and head to the island to wander through the rainforest and get to know the local Australian wildlife. Spot unique coloured butterflies, fascinating foliage and native trees. Your guides will be able to answer any questions you may have about what you discover. If you're up for more snorkelling, check out the stunning corals located beneath the surface. After lunch, head to Manta Ray Bay (still off Hook Island) and enjoy another snorkel or a ride in the glass bottom boat. Weather permitting, you'll then set sail for Bait Reef which is located on the Outer Great Barrier Reef! It's a three hour sail so make yourself comfortable on board and enjoy the ride. Keep an eye out for whales as it is whale season! Whales are frequently spotted between June and September and lucky for you there's a hydrophone onboard where you can listen to the songs of the Humpback Whales - check out this video of the experience! Snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef is one of a kind so be sure to put that mask and snorkel on and spend the afternoon getting to know the world-famous reef!
Day 5:
Wake to see the sunrise over the Great Barrier Reef, the perfect way to start the day! Enjoy another 10/10 breakfast before drifting over to the Stepping Stones (a popular location on the Great Barrier Reef known for its 18 coral pinnacles that form "stepping stones"). Explore the coral formations and be guided through the 'Manta Ray Drop Off' which is where you will see some of the most amazing corals and fish - check out this video which details what you might see! Your guides are guaranteed to show you the very best of the reef using their years of experience and knowledge and will be sure you remain safe and comfortable during your time in the water. After a busy morning, have lunch and set sail back to the Whitsunday Islands. You'll spend the night in Tongue Bay off Whitsunday Island.
Day 6:
Time to check out the world-renowned beach, Whitehaven! After breakfast head to Hill Inlet to be blown away by the views! Be sure to take your camera as Hill Inlet Lookout is one of the most photographed spots in the world. No two days are the same due to the ever-changing tides and the white swirling sands so the views are one of a kind. Then head down to Betty's Beach on Whitehaven where you can feel the soft silica sands beneath your feet. A fun fact about the silica sands is that you can actually shine your jewellery in the sand! Have lunch off the shore with Whitehaven as your backdrop. Spend the afternoon frolicking in the crystal clear waters and sunbathe on the shiny sands before setting sail for a bay near Hamilton Island for your last night on board. Spend the evening reminiscing on the wonderful trip you've had!
Day 7:
Make the most of your last morning on board and catch one last sunrise. Dip into the water for one final snorkel and swim before journeying back to Hamilton Island after breakfast. You'll arrive around 10am with plenty of time to explore the island if you don't have a flight or ferry to catch!
