Airlie Beach Race Week 2020 | Festival of Sailing

Airlie Beach Race Week is scheduled for the 6th to the 14th of August 2020 and the Race Committee and Whitsunday Sailing Club staff have been working busily behind the scenes to make sure this year’s event goes ahead as planned.

This annual event is one not to be missed with 7 full days of racing action and, onshore, the Festival of Sailing featuring food stalls and free live music every afternoon and evening and the highly anticipated Long, Late Lunch on the Lawn. With new COVID 19 safety protocols in place, the Whitsunday Sailing Club has planned an exciting week of family fun for all to enjoy and are extending a warm welcome to all.

August in the Whitsundays is a special time of year as it coincides with the arrival of the of Humpback Whales on their annual migration to the Whitsundays for the breeding season. Last year during Race Week a mother and calf even carefully maneuvered through the 2019 race fleet!

While organisers are still hopeful that Queensland’s borders will reopen in time to allow a great turnout of southern boats to join the local fleets if the borders do remain closed Airlie Beach Race Week will still go ahead despite the reduced number of entrants.
