Certified Divers
Proof of certification required. Crew may want to see log book.
Medical Declaration
All certified divers will be required to complete a medical declaration asserting that they are fit to
dive. Notwithstanding the medical declaration, the Kiana crew may disallow a passenger from diving
if they believe the person is not in a fit state (eg. high BMI, age, physical condition).
A copy of the Kiana certified diver medical declaration is attached below.
Dive Medical Certificate
Kiana policy is that a current (less than 12 months old) dive medical is required for certified divers
over 60 years of age, or answer yes to any of the questions on the medical declaration. The dive
medical should be to Australian Standard AS 4005.1 (see http://www.divemedicals.com.au/ for more
information).
Orientation Dive
The PADI standard for a multiday dive trip is that the first dive is an orientation dive to allow the dive
crew to assess each diver’s ability. On Kiana the orientation dive is at the Bait Reef on the first
afternoon, followed by a night dive in the same familiar area.
Dive Plan
All divers must have a Diving computer
Each dive will be planned by the Kiana dive crew and all divers are required to adhere to the
plan. Dives are planned allowing for at least 1 hour surface interval between dives.
No diver is to go under a minimum of 10 minutes no decompression time and Decompression diving
is not allowed on Kiana.
Kiana policy dictates for ALL dives:
• The maximum dive time is 60 minutes
• The maximum depth is 18 meters, for Open water divers and a vessel limit of 30 meters for
Advanced Divers/ Deep Diver certification.
The actual dive plan may dictate a duration and/or depth less than these maximums.
If the dive depth is exceeded it may result in the person not being permitted to dive again.
All dives are done strictly within the guidelines of the Recreational Diving Code of Practice issued by
the Queensland Government and by PADI standards.
Any Diver who is a risk to themselves, others or the environment, may be banned from further
diving at the Captain’s or Dive Supervisors discretion.
