Important Information:

  • All students MUST be able to swim.
  • All students must fill in a medical questionnaire prior to commencement of course that will be sent to you via email. Depending on results of medical questionnaire you maybe asked to complete a Australian Dive Medical AS45001 prior to course. This is at your own expense.
  • To enroll in the PADI Open Diver course, you must be 15 years or older.
  • To enroll in the PADI Junior Open Water Diver course, you must be 12 years or older.

Sample Itinerary

The PADI Open Water Diver course includes all the knowledge and skills you'll need to become a certified and confident Open Water Diver.

There are three main stages of this course:

  1. Knowledge Development to understand basic principles of scuba diving
  2. Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills
  3. Open Water Dives to review your skills and explore!

Day 1 & 2
The first two days of your PADI Open Water Dives course are spent at a purpose built dive facility with your own personal Dive Instructor. This is where you will undertake your theory portion of the programme, along with skills and confirmed water dives (5 modules in total). 

Day 3 & 4
After learning the basics and building your confidence, it's time to head to the open water! Day three and four will be spent again with your personal Dive Instructor, where the four open water dives will be undertaken on MV Mantaray. A trip on Mantaray also includes a visit to the famous Whitehaven Beach and the swirling sands of Hill Inlet.

*Please Note: Whenever possible students will be put on MV Mantaray to complete their open water dices. In occasions where this is not possible, an alternative purpose built dive vessel may be used, which will not visit Whitehaven Beach or Hill Inlet.

Please pack a small bag for your day on the ocean, with the follow:

  • Swimwear
  • Beach towel
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses (SPF 30+)
  • Camera
  • Money for soft drinks/snacks
  • Warm jumper/jacket (during winter months)

No BYO alcohol permitted onboard. 

*Please Note: Whenever possible students will be put on MV Mantaray to complete their open water dices. In occasions where this is not possible, an alternative purpose built dive vessel may be used, which will not visit Whitehaven Beach or Hill Inlet.

The Tour Operator reserves the right to limit courtesy transfers to select local accommodations. Private residences or Airbnb properties may be asked to meet at the closest confirmed location. If you are concerned about the availability of a door-to-door service to/from your accommodation, please contact our reservations team prior to booking.

What's Extra

  • AS45001 Dive Medical performed by a General Practitioner (if required - approx $60AUD). 

Terms and Conditions

Courses requires a minimum of 2 students to run. All students must be able to swim, and must be able to perform a 200m swim test without stopping. Wherever possible, all students will be put on MV Mantaray to complete their open water dive modules. On occasions where this is not possible alternative arrangements will be made at the tour operators discretion.

Australia Law states that dive course students must be a minimum of 12 years of age. To ensure young divers do not exceed their limits, all Junior certifications come with restrictions. After the ages of 15 restrictions default to those of a regular PADI certification. Your Dive Instructor will be required to take an unobstructed full face image for your personal certification card (no hats, sunglasses, scuba masks etc.) 

All departures and itineraries are subject to weather. Tours and courses may be changed or cancelled for any reason at the discretion of the Tour Operator. The Tour Operator reserves the right to alter prices, apply a fuel surcharge, cancel departures, and vary itineraries and services if necessary.

It should be noted that adventure travel involves risk. Whilst we make every effort to safeguard clients, we cannot be responsible for personal injury or loss due to the actions of our clients which are beyond our control. We recommend that all clients have travel insurance covering illness, injury, loss or damage to personal belongings and not being able to travel on the confirmed date of departure.

Please note that in the unlikely event of your trip being cancelled or stood down, all guest communication is required to go through our Online Store via telephone or email. While there is a Sailing Whitsundays retail outlet located Airlie Beach, please be aware that they operate as a separate entity and are unable to access reservations made by the Mr Travel online department.

Please be aware operators pass on credit card merchant fees so there is a non-refundable 1.5% surcharge for VISA and MASTERCARD card purchases.

Cancellations

Any cancellations made more than 21 days prior to departure will forfeit 25% of the total ticket price. No-shows or cancellations made within 21 days to departure will forfeit 100% of the total ticket price. Passengers who do not arrive at their check-in on time, or their pick up location, may be classed as a no-show. Passengers should plan to arrive before the nominated time.

If the tour operator has to cancel the trip or activity (prior to the departure) and we cannot offer a suitable alternative, then a refund will be given minus card fees. We strongly recommend that you have travel insurance, especially during the wet season.

It is the responsibility of all passengers travelling to advise both your travel agent at the time of booking and vessel check-in agent before boarding of ANY medical conditions including food allergies you may suffer from.
