Known for its strong theoretic foundation, the PADI Open Water Dive Course is also an incredibly fun and memorable experience! Throughout the entire duration of your course, you will find yourself smiling, laughing and enjoying every moment of your underwater experiences. You will breathe underwater for the first time (something youll never forget) and learn what you need to know to become a certified open water diver.The PADI Open Water Dive Course is the world's most popular scuba course and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle. Throughout this programme, you will learn about scuba fundamentals, equipment and techniques, as well as spending time beneath the surface practicing new skills and exploring the marine environment.

PADI Open Water Dive Course Features:

  • 5 confined pool training sessions at Whitsunday Dive Adventures dive centre, in Airlie Beach
  • 4 open water ocean dives
  • All equipment and personalised instruction (max. 6 students per class)
  • Log book, dive logs, all learning material and passport photos
  • 2 day trips to the Whitsunday Islands (on either Mantaray or their purposely dive designed speedboat)
  • Registration to PADI International, including postage
  • Full Buffet lunch on day 3 and 4
  • Morning and afternoon tea/coffee on day 3 and 4

What You Learn

The PADI Open Water Diver course includes all the knowledge and skills youll need to become a certified and confident Open Water Diver.

Three main stages of the course:

  1. Knowledge Development (online, home study or in a classroom ) to understand basic principles of scuba diving
  2. Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills
  3. Open Water Dives to review your skills and explore!

If you've tried diving through a discover scuba diving experience or resort course, the skills you learned may be credited towards a portion of the full PADI Open Water Diver course certification (please enquire at the time of booking).

Pre-Requisites

To enrol in the PADI Open Diver course or Junior Open Water Diver course, you must:
Be 12 years or older (Australian Laws) (PADI e-Learning requires a minimum age of 13 years due to international internet laws)

Course

The PADI Open Water Dive Course takes only 4 days. The first two days, you will cover the theory portion and practice all the skills in a swimming pool. Day 3 and 4 will take place onboard MV Mantaray, where you will complete 2 dives each day and become certified as an Open Water Diver.
If you select the PADI Open Water E-learning Course this will take just 3 days, 1 day for pool and theory, 2 days on MV Mantaray with 4 open water dives, plus the e-learning theory material to be completed from the PADI homepage.
The PADI Open Water Referral Course takes just 2.5 days to complete, with half a day spent refreshing skills in the pool and the last 2 days on MV Mantaray to complete your open water dives. Please note you must have your referral from instructor with you to do this course.

Your Boat

In one day, Mantaray will show you all the best of the Whitsunday Islands, departing from Abel Point Marina in Airlie Beach daily. You will get the chance to visit postcard perfect Hill Inlet Lookout, infamous Whitehaven Beach, Whitsunday Island, as well as a selection of top dive and snorkel sites. Who knew that your dive course would also allow you to explore one of Australias top destinations too!

Whenever possible students will be put on MV Mantaray, in rare occasions for example when minimum numbers not reached, an alternative purpose built dive vessel may be used, which will not visit Whitehaven Beach.

Whitsunday Dive Adventures also offer: 

All students must fill in a medical questionnaire prior to commencement of course that will be sent to you via email, at time of booking. Depending on results of medical questionnaire you maybe asked to complete a Australian Dive Medical AS45001 prior to course. This is at your own expense.

What To Bring

Dive medical if requested, your ticket, own lunch and drinks for day 1 and 2. Please pack a small day bag for the Whitsundays on day 3 and 4 with swimwear, beach towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, camera, money for soft drinks/snacks, warm sweater/jacket (during winter months)

What's Extra

If advised to get a dive medical they can be obtained from 121 medical centre, Cannonvale, 07 4946 4622 or The Doctors, 283 Shute Harbour Road, (Opposite McDonalds) Airlie Beach, 07 4948 0900. This is at own cost (approx $60AUD). Please bring your own food for day 1 and 2 of the course.

Terms and Conditions

All departures and itineraries are subject to weather. Courses may be changed or cancelled for any reason at the discretion of the Tour Operator. It should be noted that diving involves risk.Whilst we make every effort to safeguard clients, we cannot be responsible for personal injury or loss due to actions of our clients which are beyond our control. We recommend that all clients have travel insurance covering illness, injury, loss or damage to personal belongings and not being able to travel on the confirmed date of booking. Please be aware operators pass on credit card merchant fees so there is a non-refundable 2.5% surcharge for VISA, MASTERCARD and AMEX card purchases.

Cancellations

All client cancellations forfeit 25% of total ticket price and all client cancellations made less than 21 days prior to departure will result in complete forfeiture of the full price of the tour or package. If the tour operator has to cancel the trip or activity (prior to the departure) and we cannot offer a suitable alternative, then a refund will be given minus card fees. We strongly recommend that you have travel insurance. Minimum age 15 years.
