How to Visit the Whitsunday Islands

The Whitsunday Islands are an archipelago located off the east coast of Australia in the state of Queensland. Consisting of 74 individual islands, coral reefs, beaches, resorts and more, the Whitsundays are a favourite holiday destination among Australians and world-wide travellers.

On offer, they have not only rest and relaxation but also snorkelling, beach time, adventuring and exploring. There is much to see and do in this part of the world, and with many overnight and day trips that explore the area, seeing all the best of the Whitsundays has never been easier.

The Whitsundays are home to Whitehaven Beach, one of the most famous beaches in the world and one of the best and more pristine beaches in Australia. Located on Whitsunday Island, it is part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and is protected under park law. With no resorts and limited facilities on the island itself, the beach remains untouched and in its original, natural condition, making it one of the top must-sees while in the Whitsundays.

Also within the Whitsunday Islands are Hamilton Island, Daydream Island and Hayman Island, several of the most well-known resort islands in Australia. All three resorts are within reach of the mainland, where guests can enjoy overnight or day trips, depending on the resort. On the islands, guests can expect to find shops, accommodation, restaurants and more.

If you are short on time, but want to explore some of the Whitsunday Islands, you can see the best of them during day trips which leave from Airlie Beach.
