The underwater world of the Whitsundays

The Whitsundays Island are home to funny clownfish, lively crustaceans, the huge Maori Wrasse, majestic sea turtles, humpback whales and so much more - it is alive with diverse marine life and are full of so many opportunities to witness them up close.

The best way to enjoy the reef and see all it has to offer is to join a day trip or overnight boat where you can enjoy snorkelling along the fringing reefs of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, sailing through the aqua waters of the Coral Sea and beach hop around the Whitsunday islands.

You can take the opportunity to swim alongside the bustling fish and inquisitive turtles, which are happy to lazily swim alongside you as you both explore the reef. Snorkellers and scuba divers can both enjoy the underwater world, with many diverse reefs to discover around the islands, each with their own unique ecosystem. From tiny fish to huge rays, there is something new around every bommie and coral garden, ready to be explored.

Lucky adventurers might get the chance to see dolphins cruise alongside their boat at full sail as they make their way from destination to destination, playing with in the wake of the boat. Then in winter, thousands of humpback whales join the Whitsundays scene as they come to enjoy the warm waters, where you'll often see them breach alongside you boat or put off amazing displays on the ocean's horizon for a truly spectacular show!

The underwater world of the Whitsundays is unlike any other with an amazing array of marine life, stunning reefs, untouched coves and unforgettable experiences. Take the chance to see it for yourself and see what it's all about!
