Airlie Beach attracts people from all walks of life; from budget backpackers, to the rich and famous; and has developed a wealth of great local festivals and events to reflect this. Below is a quick rundown of some of the best and most notable events in Airlie’s calendar:
THE AIRLIE BEACH RUNNING FESTIVAL (July)
The event includes the ever popular Half Marathon; plus the Port of Airlie 10km, Balance Podiatry 5km, and the 5km Corporate Team Challenge.
WHITSUNDAY VOICES YOUTH LITERATURE FESTIVAL (July)
Whitsunday Voices is the largest literature festival north of the Sunshine Coast with an unprecedented attendance of over 5000 people.
THE REEF FESTIVAL (August)
An annual favourite; The Reef Festival is a great combination of family fun, community events, all-night celebrations, food, fashion, fireworks and some of the biggest street parties on the east coast.
AIRLIE BEACH RACE WEEK (August)
Sailors from across the world descend on Airlie for the town's annual regatta.
THE GREAT WHITSUNDAY FUN RACE (August)
After a week of serious racing, the great Whitsunday fun race is a chance for everyone to get involved. Purely an entertaining event in the colourful and a vibrant atmosphere of the Coral Sea.
AIRLIE BEACH FESTIVAL OF MUSIC (November)
74 Bands playing over three days in 16 different venues throughout Airlie Beach; with headline acts every night under the big top marquee at the Whitsunday Sailing Club overlooking the Coral Sea.
AIRLIE’S NIGHT LIFE
From the moment you arrive in Airlie Beach, the good time vibe is contagious. This spectacular coastal town is not only the gateway to the Whitsundays; but the nightlife capital of the east coast! Whether you’re looking for cheap beers and live music, or evening cocktails overlooking the Coral Sea there’s a spot reserved for every traveller. Here’s some of the places you will want to be exploring late into the night.
The spot to catch up with everyone; if they’re in Airlie you’ll bump into them here! From live music, foam parties and themed nights, to a quick game of pool and a few ciders on the decking; magnums has an infectious atmosphere.
The backpackers oasis; cheap food, pleasant accommodation and free entry. If you’re looking for a quieter night out, get there early! Before 8 o’clock this venue is a great spot to sneak a few beers and catch up with mates; but by 10 this is an all-out party venue and a great opportunity to blow off some steam and lose a night or two.
DOWN UNDER BAR (DUB)
Whether you fancy a cheeky mid-afternoon beer and a steak, or a big night out, Down Under is a great place to get things started. You never know where a night in the Down Under Bar will lead; but hey where would be the fun in knowing anyway?
The only place to be after 12! With an atmosphere unrivalled on the east coast you’re bound to finish on a high! The music is out and out club, and might not satisfy every music lovers tastes, but if you don’t come away with some great stories, you’re doing it wrong!
This quirky little bar hosts some of Airlie’s most unique nights; with great drinks deals, and strong DJ’s, this intimate little venue is a great place to get away from the larger mainstream crowds.
The most popular club in town (and one or two over as well)! Mama Africa is all about dancing and cocktails. If you’re looking for a real night out, Mama Africa has to be on the list!
Airlie’s Irish pub! The best place to start your night, with great live music and a genuine vibe; you may well find yourself sticking around long into the night!
